iPhone 6C

The iPhone 5C in commercial terms was a bit of a let-down.  No one can really narrow down why that should have been given the 5C had all of the core functionality that the other iPhone 5’s had but at a lower price. Perhaps the plastic bold coloured plastic rear cover, perhaps the idea of a “budget” iPhone was a bit of a turn off, whatever the case Apple are rumoured to be looking at another throw of the dice with a 6C model. There are rumours that the 6C might even be the answer to the public demand for a return to a smaller 4” size model more akin to the iPhone 5 that can actually fit in a pocket. Whatever the case we can expect to see Apple make an announcement on this around the end of March.

iPhone 7

Looks like it. End of the year sees Apple potentially launching a new version of the 4.7” and 5.5” models. The reliable rumours are suggestion the home button will be retired altogether and replaced by a soft button that has long been the choice of androids. The iPhone would extend the screen all the way to the bottom of the phone. Apple has been busy patenting on screen finger print reading technology that would indicate that Apple are indeed serious about dropping the physical home button.

Apple again, rather late to the party but never the less welcome will be looking to introduce wireless charging and wireless headphones. Furthermore, the removal of a headphone socket would allow the iPhone to be reduced to a mere 1mm in thickness.

Other things you can expect are just a general upgrade to the memory, which could be ramped up to 3gb, an upgrade to the camera, waterproof casing and better battery life from a new cell technology.

Apple TV

Strong sources suggest BBC are jumping on board with Sky and co to make their platform available on the Apple TV. Whilst ITV have suggested they will not be available on the Apple TV whereas Channel 4 could be making 4oD available.

MacPro

The expectation is that Apple would need to address the MacPro that when released in 2013 was an absolute whopper of processing stats and number crunching. Three years on processing technology has progressed and thus Apples ability to charge top dollar for the Mac Pro can only remain so if they use 2016 as a means of steroid infusing the next release of the MacPro. Whether this is going to happen is debatable however there are processors on the offering in the form of the E5 v4 Broadwell chipset that could be just the ticket.

USB-C

A while ago we spoke of Apples intention to introduce a USB technology that was quite a significant leap forward in what IO technology could achieve at the time that other brands would be getting on board with this format and in doing so we would have a unified USB format that can be used on the majority of tech coming out soon. This was the USB-C format. Currently only the MacBook uses this format the question is whether new Apple products will be rolled out with this or whether Apple will opt for their Thunderbolt 3 format.

Force Touch Keyboard

The source of most Apple rumours are based on the publically declared patent applications submitted by Apple. Looks like Apple are working on a super slim keyboard unit that may compliment the contentious “Magic Track Pad 2” and find its way collectively into the next MacBook models. The main benefit would be that it would allow a thinner design for any of the MacBook models.

IOS 10

IOS 9 and subsequent updates were slightly problematic for older iPhones but never the less clean and dependable as you would expect. The WWDC event that takes place in June in the U.S is the event Apple often uses to make its big gun announcements. IOS 10 is expected for this event and it will potentially bring an interesting new feature to Siri. Siri would potentially be able to scan your voicemail and transcribe the message back to you. This is another small addition and refinement to the Siri technology that presumably will one day result in Siri becoming sentient and self-aware and governing the world. Until that time Siri will be a welcomed feature of iPhones for many years to come.

And the rest….

OSX 10.12 is all but announced for Autumn of this year under the name of another iconic Yellowstone site, Apple Music will continue its push with a potential upgrade to 96KHz/24bit quality audio, the first revision and chance for Apple to refine the Apple Watch around May. The next release would probably include more external brand collaborations and a host of refinements to the mobile network accessing.  The MacBook Air perhaps hasn’t had the impact Apple wished it to, with the much more powerful MacBook Pro negating any real need for professional use of the Air. However, with a camera improvement here, a processor upgrade there, Apple may choose to use 2016 as a means to spruce up the MacBook Air.
