A colour coordinated wardrobe? A book shelf arranged in ascending order of book height? A lawn that has been mowed using a spirit level and set square? If any of this satisfies that little voice in the back of your head that craves order and structure then read on.

Cables are the enemy of well organised IT, but do they have to be? Here we are proud to announce the top 10 for IT OCD 2016!

Number 10: A fine statement here. We especially loved the bold use of sunny colours to bring a bit of life to the despair that is a server cabinet. This would have appeared higher on our list had it not been for the slightly less encouraging grey cables sat behind the main cables!

Number 9: Just look at it. A wonderful bit of work. You take a massive risk with going with a single colour approach, especially when you have to diagnose a bad cable, but that just makes this entry that bit more impressive for its boldness!

Grasp 16

Number 8: If you’re proud of your cabling, then what better than to show it off? Shame that in the adjacent glass floor panel there is the lifeless body of the poor IT guy who got stuck plumbing all this cabling in.

Grasp 16

Number 7: This entry got its place for its use of “improvised” materials. Note, improvised cardboard partitioning. This cunning (though maybe flammable) solution got our attention.

Number 6: A lovely example of cable routing. Made that much more difficult by the fact it has to be routed through the ceiling. We think its actually an expressionist portrait of a waterfall using a post modernist medium. Either that or its just a person who likes to arrange his cables. Who knows!

 Grasp 16

Number 5: A good and dedicated IT specialist will not only want to organise their own clients cabling, but also that of all the other adjacent cabling in the server cabinet. Yes, this could cause chaos and disconnect entire office blocks but we say its a small price to pay for results such as those below. Maximum marks for attention to detail although the clashing of blue, yellow and white cabling thwarted this cabinet’s true potential.

Number 4: Every IT consultant wakes up in a cold sweat on occasion and it is the below picture that causes the darkest of nightmares to IT professionals. The rerouting and rearranging of an entire server cabinet. This entry is by no means the most tidy or aesthetically pleasing entry but its a classic case of “before” and “after”, the before being the left and the after being the right. We think so at least, either that or its vice versa and someone seriously upset their IT support workers.

Number 3: You could drop an atom bomb on the cabling below and it wouldn’t budge an inch. This cabling has been set in place with such mathematical precision its a joy to behold. Its ok if you want to clap for this picture, we did.

Grasp 16

Number 2: Much the same as women will put on a brave face and utter the words “size isn’t everything”, we here at Grasp actually mean it. Number 2 here doesn’t boast the biggest array of cabling but certainly a very tidy and very pleasing one. We love the superimposition of movement with this cabling, it looks like a server cabinet that is in constant motion……………………..Now with nonsensical talk like that, a call from the Tate Modern looking for curators cant be far away!

Number 1: Our winner and would you just look at the sheer audacity of it. This pulls no punches. Like some giant venomous snake lurking in your server cabinet, this one is minimalism, bold and pinpoint accurate all in one. The person responsible for this would be the type of person equally comfortable discussing ancient Saxon literature as well as demonstrating to you that they can kung fu kick a grape off of your head with great accuracy.
