Facebook Conspiracy Theories – Fact or Fiction?

With Facebook now boasting over a billion users worldwide, more and more theories and questions are being asked as to if the social media juggernaut is a force for social revolution and growth or a means of surreptitious data collection and social control the likes of which were never before possible.

Every now and again it seems Facebook come under significant scrutiny and its not hard to see why. When it is alleged that Facebooks own engineers confessed it stores up to 800 pages of personal data per user account and indeed after the EvF or “Europe vs Facebook” campaign exercised its right by law to request a copy of information stored on its own profile it received a whopping 880 pages of categorised documentation. So the the big question has to be, why is this the case? Read on……

“Privacy is an outdated concept” – Mark Zuckerberg – Facebook Founder and Owner

I thought everything was fine, so what’s going on?

….Initially on face value it could have appeared from the revealed documentation that Facebook contained the necessary information for a harmless though altogether HUGE census exercise. However after it became obvious Facebook was keeping tabs on deleted personal messaging, a log of when and where users accessed Facebook from right the way down to political and religious views its not hard to see why certain eyebrows were being raised. Cue hysteria of governmental level conspiracies and illuminati, reptilian royal families.

Facebook openly declares on its policies that it is collecting certain data and it even gives a few reasons as to why it keeps data such as “unfriend” requests and removed tags but it doesn’t give a definitive answer for why there is such a huge capability within its servers dedicated to retaining personal information long after it has been deleted by a user that can only be removed completely by a full deletion of the users account.

Facebook maintains that it holds the utmost priority in keeping your information protected but the more time progresses, the more almighty question marks appear over the sincerity of what is without any close comparison – a giant database of a billion peoples behaviours, beliefs, movements and much much more.
